Choose your two versions
Drag two items from Finder, or choose the Left and Right sets. Files, folders, ZIPs—and a folder against a ZIP—all work.
Ever wonder which download has the latest work, what changed, or what quietly disappeared? VersionMapper gives you a simple way to compare two versions and decide what to keep.
IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE
No repository setup. No commands to learn. Just the files you already have.
Drag two items from Finder, or choose the Left and Right sets. Files, folders, ZIPs—and a folder against a ZIP—all work.
Find changed, identical, and unmatched files. Read supported text changes side by side, with small edits highlighted.
Use revision labels and dates as clues, investigate possible omissions, and keep control over your own work.
ONE SIMPLE WORKFLOW
Spot content changes in text, Markdown and source files. Compare other file types by content, too.
Compare included files across two directories, even when their folder structures differ.
Look inside directly selected ZIPs without creating a separate extracted folder.
Sort out revisions when dates, filenames and actual content tell different stories.
THE DIFFERENCE IS IN THE DETAILS
A number changed. A sentence was removed. A paragraph has new wording. Open View changes to read supported text files in aligned columns, with changed lines and smaller word-level edits emphasized.
Explore side-by-side viewingMORE THAN JUST DIFFERENT
Before replacing a working version, choose which side is your reference. VersionMapper looks for evidence of unmatched files, removed text blocks, and altered or absent Markdown headings.
These are review candidates—not a guarantee that content was lost or a judgment about which version is correct.
How the missing-content review worksA reference file does not have an included counterpart.
A removed text block was not found verbatim in its matched file.
A Markdown heading needs another look.

WHY WE BUILT VERSIONMAPPER
VersionMapper began with a familiar problem: working with AI tools can leave multiple downloads of documents, code, images, and repositories—each a little different. Rather than learning a version-control system just to check two copies, I wanted something simple, native, and clear.
A CLEARER WAY TO COMPARE
