Privacy matters.
Your files stay yours.
The VersionMapper application is built around local, read-only comparison. The website's contact and eventual community features are separate services with their own limited data needs.
Effective: October 21, 2026 · VersionMapper website and macOS application
1. The VersionMapper Mac application
VersionMapper compares files, folders, and ZIP archives you select directly on your Mac. The application does not upload your comparison inputs or their contents to a VersionMapper service, does not require a VersionMapper account, and does not use in-app analytics or advertising trackers.
Selected file paths, results and text previews are used locally for the comparison. The app may retain ordinary application preferences and its window position in macOS-managed storage, but it does not save your document contents as an automatic history. You can explicitly export a Markdown report where you choose. Those reports may contain file paths, names, fingerprints and findings, so review them before sharing.
If you select a document that exists only in iCloud or another remote file service, macOS or that provider may download it so the app can read it. That activity is governed by the file provider, not a VersionMapper upload.
2. Visiting this website
The site itself is static: it does not set its own advertising cookies, use Google Analytics, or run behavioral tracking scripts. Website hosting and delivery are provided by Netlify. As with ordinary hosting, Netlify may process technical request data such as IP addresses, timestamps and browser information for delivery, reliability, abuse prevention and security under its own terms and privacy practices.
The website does not automatically read files from your Mac. Its images, JavaScript and styles are served from our own site rather than external marketing networks.
3. Support, feature requests and bug reports
If you choose to send feedback using our support form, we request your name, email address, message, inquiry type, and optionally your app version. Netlify Forms processes the submission and makes it available to the site administrator so we can review it and, if needed, reply. Spam protection may also evaluate submitted material.
We use this information to address your question or report, consider requested improvements, and manage support. Do not include sensitive documents, passwords or confidential information in a message. Submitting feedback does not make your message publicly visible.
4. Optional community participation
When the VersionMapper discussion forum is activated, registration, sign-in, posting and moderation will be provided by a hosted community service (planned: Discourse). Creating a forum account is optional and is not required for the Mac app.
That provider will process account and discussion information according to its own privacy policy and account controls. Public forum posts, display names and timestamps may be visible to other visitors. Avoid publishing confidential file paths or document contents. The community website will identify its provider and link to its applicable policies when opened.
5. Retention, access and security
Application comparison inputs are processed locally; no copy is retained by a VersionMapper cloud comparison service. Preferences and app-owned support data may remain on your Mac until you clear them through the app or macOS. Exports remain wherever you saved them.
Feedback submissions remain in the Netlify Forms account until reviewed or deleted by the site administrator according to operational needs. We aim to retain only what is reasonably needed for support and product improvement. Third-party hosting and forum services apply their own technical, backup and retention processes.
We do not sell personal information submitted through the website. As with any online communication, absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
6. Your choices
You can use VersionMapper without using the website or creating a forum account. You can avoid submitting feedback, and you can request access to or deletion of information you previously sent through our contact form, subject to applicable obligations. Forum account management and deletion are governed by the provider's controls.
To clear optional app-owned data before uninstalling, use VersionMapper → Clear VersionMapper Data…. Compared files and exported reports are not deleted by this action.
7. Contact and updates
For privacy inquiries or data requests, use our support form and choose “Something else.” We may update this policy when the application, website features or service providers change; a new effective date will be shown here.
