A TOOL YOU CAN UNDERSTAND AT A GLANCE

See what changed.
Know what to review.

VersionMapper compares the contents of two selected sets on your Mac. It shows meaningful evidence without turning a simple comparison into a version-control project.

01 / FILES

Compare files by content.

Compare two individual files, including text, Markdown, source code, PDFs, images, and other binary formats. VersionMapper can tell when included file contents differ—even when names or dates are similar.

For supported text, you can inspect differences. Images and other binaries are compared by contents, not shown in a pixel-by-pixel viewer.

02 / FOLDERS

Understand whole projects.

Drop two folders to compare their included files. The result surfaces changed, identical, left-only and right-only entries, so you can focus on the parts that actually differ.

Ignore cruft is on by default to exclude common temporary and repository-support material. You can also choose to ignore binary files when you want a text-focused review.

03 / ZIP ARCHIVES

Open the archive's story.
Not the archive.

Directly select two ZIP archives to compare their included entries without creating extracted copies. You can also compare a current project folder against a downloaded ZIP.

A ZIP nested inside a folder is treated as a file; choose the ZIP directly to compare its entries. Text previews inside ZIPs are limited, and PDF entries receive byte-level comparison only.

04 / SUCCESSIVE DOWNLOADS

Newer isn't always obvious.

A later file date may reflect copying or packaging, not a better document. VersionMapper considers revision labels and, when appropriate, changed-file modification dates. If signals conflict, it reports uncertainty instead of inventing certainty.

What matters is the evidence—not an automatic decision about which copy to delete.

ASSESSMENT, NOT A PROMISE
Right appears newer

Revision labels favor the right side.

Names suggest an order. Review the contents to decide.
05 / VIEW CHANGES

Read line changes side by side.

Blue highlights left-side removals and mint highlights right-side additions. Within supported paired lines, stronger emphasis calls out small word, number and punctuation changes. The viewer is read-only.

06 / WHAT WENT MISSING?

Check what didn't survive a revision.

Choose Left or Right as your reference. VersionMapper surfaces unmatched files, removal-only text candidates and changed or absent Markdown headings, with source evidence you can inspect.

This is a bounded local review, not a semantic completeness test. Reworded, relocated or excluded content may explain a warning.

REVIEW CANDIDATES

✓ File with no included match

✓ Original text not found verbatim

✓ Heading changed or absent

GOOD TO KNOW

Clarity includes the limits.

VersionMapper compares included file contents. It does not visually compare images or PDF page layouts, merge files, monitor Downloads in the background, or maintain automatic comparison history. Large or unsupported files may have content comparisons but no readable preview.

Export a Markdown report whenever you want to keep a record of the current comparison. Its filenames, paths and fingerprints may be sensitive; check before sharing.
